This is Wake Up to Wealth, a podcast dedicated to helping you change the way you think about wealth. And now here's your host, Brandon Brittingham.
This next segment is brought to you by my good friends at Acruity. Now, if you run a business, most business owners neglect their back office. And they don't even know where to go or who to trust when it comes to their financials or a CPA or taxes. That's where Accruity comes in. You can trust them, they can give you advice, and they understand the back office. Listen, you're not running a business correctly if you don't have a hold of this, and it's really hard to trust people that are out there. And most CPAs frankly work for the IRS and don't work for you. That's not the case with Accruity. Check my good friends out at Accruity for any needs that you have when it comes to helping with your back office, getting your books straight, getting your taxes correct, and they guide you and give you advice, which most firms don't. So check out my guys at Accruity. Tell 'em I sent you. Hey, what's up everybody? We are back with another episode of Wake Up to Wealth. And as I start off every show, it's the same way, but listen, I gotta just say thank you guys. We are trending almost to 4.5 million downloads. We've really spiked listeners every episode now. We're close to 130,000 downloads per episode. And I cannot thank you guys enough. Cannot thank you enough for the support, the love. It's why the show has become what it is, is because so many people out there like you that are listening right now have supported it. So I cannot thank you guys enough. Like, share, leave us a review, tell your friends. We continue to grow the show and we're consistently top 5 in investing on the charts and top 30, sometimes top 20. We've cracked into the top 15 in business, which is one of the hardest categories to compete with. We're competing with shows with millions of dollars of ad budgets, big studios behind it. And I'm literally here right now in my office shooting this, We have no budget, we're filming it ourselves, and we have no corporate sponsors. And I'm pretty proud of that. So today, it's going to be a little bit different. I want to come on here and talk to you guys for a few minutes because I coach a lot of people and I think a lot of things right now are sideways. I think things are sideways in a lot of people's businesses. I think Times are tough for a lot of people. I think we went on this just insane, no matter what business you were in, this insane COVID run. And then it took a couple years to flush that out. We're on the opposite side of that. And so there's a couple things I want to talk to you guys about today that I think are just kind of normal trials and tribulations of business. And I hope this helps some of you out there and/or why I'm doing this is because I'm having a lot of the same conversations with a lot of coaching clients, with a lot of entrepreneurs all over the United States. So I know it's timely and it's fresh, and I want to talk to you guys about it. A couple of things. Number one, I think that you guys have heard me say this before, if you follow me or you're a follower of the show, that your income, your net worth, your growth is directly tied to the pain tolerance you can take. And I think one of the things that a lot of people have a misconception on or misconstrue is as you grow and as you get bigger, that things are going to get easier. In fact, it's quite the opposite. As you grow and as you start to build, the universe is going to test you to see if you deserve it and you're deserving of it. And a lot of times, I like to call this the slingshot effect. A lot of times what happens is Right before you are close to a major breakthrough or a major growth spurt or your next leap, you have a massive pullback. Shit starts going wrong. You start feeling uncomfortable. Shit's not going your way. And think of it like a slingshot. It's a pullback before you have this monumentous growth. It's just part of the game. It just is what it is. But a lot of times when things aren't going your way and shit's starting to break and shit's starting to go wrong, it's because You are shedding the good to get to the great. And what we miss a lot of times is, and I want you to kind of think about this and look at this in retrospect, when you zoom out at 30,000 feet, you may be able to go back in your life and recognize these moments and connect the dots. But when you're standing in it, you can't. So what happens is a lot of times for a lot of people out there, there's a reason why there's a separation of wealth and success in our country. Because at every level, people stop or people drop off. And as some people continue to grow, it gets uncomfortable and they just hang it the fuck up. And that's not what I want any of my listeners to do. I want you to understand it's not going to be easy. It's going to be difficult. You're going to be tested. Shit's going to go wrong. You're going to get sued. People are going to steal from you. You're going to lose people in your environment that you care about. This is just all part of the deal. In every single level that you grow to, it's going to get harder. You have to adjust and get better. And a lot of times, like I just mentioned, right before that next lever of growth, you have this slingshot effect. The other thing too is that I think is extremely important is as you continue to grow, you have to work on your personal development. And what I mean by that is going to masterminds, getting coaching, reading, listening to podcasts, taking care of your body, going to the gym, consistently working on yourself internally. Because here's the other thing that happens. Conor McGregor, as an example, just had a fight this weekend. He lost in the first minute, tore his ACL. We don't necessarily know the story, but But if you look at Conor McGregor's rise prior to him becoming a champ, he's probably one of the most focused, most determined fighters that we've ever seen. He changed the UFC, he changed the game. Then what happened was, like everybody, he had some demons inside of him. He got a bunch of money, he became the champ, he stopped doing the shit that got him there. But money magnifies whatever's inside of you. So, um, if you got some shit you ain't worked out You got some trauma you haven't faced, you got some shit from childhood you ain't dealt with, then what's going to happen is you put money in the, in the equation and it's just going to put gasoline on it. Then the other thing is, as you continue to grow and build your businesses, what's super important is you consistently work on personal development, because if you don't, then your shit's going to get off target and the demons are going to come out and you're going to start going backwards. The big part about all this is doing what got you there and staying doing what got you there, being consistent day in and day out. Probably one of the most difficult things for any human being to be is consistent. So if you can be consistent day in and day out, you're going to win. And what happens is when things go wrong, you stop being consistent. But when things go right, a lot of people stop being consistent too, because You stop doing the shit that got you there. So if you can have this mindset of personal development and you can stay consistent, then every single level you go through, it won't matter because you have your daily principles and your daily habits that you lean on. And what I want to tell you guys is one of the things you have to also recognize is you have to recognize there's times in life when you're going to get your turn. You become the hammer. There's times in life when you're going to be the nail. What's important is when you recognize that you are the hammer, you got to keep hitting and you got to hit and you got to hit and you got to hit because you don't know when that turn changes. The other thing is what you have to realize is if you're in a phase of life where you're the nail, it's okay because times will change, right? That's that slingshot effect. But when you get the chance to become the hammer, you've got to fucking hit as hard as you can, as much as you can, stack your chips, and get on the other side of it because you don't know when time's going to change and you're going to be the nail again. And you're going to have phases in life where you're going to be the hammer and you're going to be the nail. How you stay the hammer is stay locked in on your personal development, stay locked in on your consistency, stay locked in on your mind, body, and your health. But there's seasons for everything. So you have to understand both sides of the equation, but you also have to understand that whatever phase you're in, it doesn't last forever. So you have to take advantage of it. If you're in the phase of getting your ass kicked, it's not going to last forever. If you're in the phase of just absolutely crushing and winning, understand that doesn't last forever either. Now you can prolong how long that can last, But again, as you continue to grow, shit is going to break, right? And when shit breaks, you feel uncomfortable. And if you've been winning for a while and then you're starting to level up and getting into another season of leveling up, shit's going to break. It's going to feel real uncomfortable because you forgot what it felt like not to win. So basically with all of this, the key principle Is your mental toughness and your mental fortitude. There's a reason why there's a concentration of wealth in the world between the have and the have-nots. It's because most people, when shit gets tough, are just going to tap out. And I want you to understand that if you're going through it right now, or it's tough, or it's difficult, you're being tested. And a lot of times you don't know how close you actually are.
Yeah.
One of the things that we as entrepreneurs make the mistake of is we focus on the gap and not the gain. And so one of the things that I would tell you to do as an exercise is instead of looking at the gap of where you want to be, look at the gain of where you are. So look at a year ago, 2 years ago, 3 years ago, 5 years ago versus now. What is the gain you've had in your business? What is the gain you have in your life? I bet you it's monumental. But what happens is you tend to focus on the gap and not the gain. Give yourself some grace and focus on the gain because you've done some amazing shit and you need to stand in that. The other thing is when times get hard and things get difficult, you tend to forget that you've been through something similar to this or maybe even something worse and you survived it. And that's why I say the mental toughness and the mental fortitude Is what's going to continue to drive you forward. So understand that it's all part of the game, right? We are all going to be tested. You know, the universe is going to see if you're deserving of it. Every level that you grow and you grow at, it's going to get harder. You just have to learn to get better. Your mindset, your personal development, your consistency is going to be paramount to you being successful. And understand, we all go through it. Shit is always going to be difficult. Shit's always going wrong in business. Business is fucking war. Business is a sport. You're going to win some championships some seasons. You'll get sent home early some seasons. You just have to understand you show up the same and you keep moving and you keep pressing forward because that's what it's all about. And you develop this mental toughness that it doesn't matter. And again, your pain tolerance is going to be directly tied to what's in your bank account and what your net worth is. And eventually, if you're smart, you invest, you get your shit right, you can get to a point where you don't have to take the pain anymore because you can set up investments that pay you for the rest of your life. But for a long period of time, you've got to be able to take— get punched in the face, get in the ring, get up, keep moving, have the mental fortitude, Have the mental toughness to keep rolling. So right now, I know a lot of people are going through it. I know it's difficult out there in a lot of industries and a lot of businesses, but you're just being tested. And I want you to understand, this is also where your competition stops. So if you're thinking about, man, I want to throw the fucking towel in, I promise you there's a lot of other people you compete with have already thrown it in. And if you can just stand in there, be consistent, suck it up, and keep moving forward, You'll be rewarded at the end. And whatever you believe in, whatever you want to do, the universe will find a way for you to get it if you just keep pushing, you keep moving forward. So I just always want to say, I appreciate you guys. I appreciate your support of the show. And I always want to bring you guys real content and real context. I came on here today because I'm having a lot of similar conversations with a lot of people. That are having some mindset issues because they're having some issues in their businesses. And this is across the board, and this is to be expected. This is part of the game. So, uh, I hope I gave you guys some stuff today that will be helpful for you, that you can implement, that can change and shift your mindset. I always appreciate you guys showing up to the show, tuning in and supporting us. And your mental toughness, your ability to take pain, your ability to weather the storm is gonna single-handedly affect where you're gonna end up in life. And I believe in you guys. You guys can do it. Um, keep that mental toughness, that mental sharpness, stay consistent, and shit's gonna work out for you. I appreciate you guys showing up today. I appreciate you guys listening to the show, and I appreciate you always being a supporter.
